How To Find Out Who Owns a Property In 2023

So, you’re interested in a property, but don’t know How To Find a Property Owner. If you’re a real estate agent, conveyancer or simply an interested buyer, you probably won’t get very far without that piece of information, but how exactly do you get it? Well, it’s important to know that an owner is listed on the properties land title and that getting a certificate of title doesn’t have to be a headache!

A land title is an official record of that property and its owner, among other information.

You can purchase a land title Here.

Step 1: Go to a title search web site like ours - Property Registry

To lookup the current owner of a property you will need to complete a title search, which will yield the owner’s full name, as well as other title information listed in the registry. Some land registries like Landgate will let you search your required title search online, others will not and a reseller like our website will be needed.

Step 2: Enter the properties address to begin your title search

You’ll need to fill out a short form to search against either the address of the property, title reference number or volume/folio number, which will provide the necessary information of how to find an owner of a property. Make sure to check that you’ve spelled everything correctly, as mistakes can alter the search results.

Step 3: Get your land title!

That’s it! In a few moments, your title will be emailed to you and you’ll know the current ownership details with the owner’s full name, title reference or volume and folio number, plan number's and type, encumbrance or mortgage notifications, caveats and a list of any unregistered dealings.

If the search doesn’t list any results, you won’t have to pay the fee, this search can be completed whether you are the title owner or not.

Thanks to the efficiency of Australia’s land registration system and modern technology, finding the owner of a property is quick and effortless. Hopefully, you’ll now have what you need to continue your research and make some important decisions. Property Registry can complete land title searches across Australia in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA and NT.
